The Durability of the Google Pixel 8 Pro: A Closer Look

The Google Pixel 8 series, consisting of the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro, made its debut on October 4th. These new smartphones from Google are equipped with the powerful Tensor G3 chip and run on the latest Android 14 operating system. While both models offer impressive features, the Pixel 8 Pro has recently gained recognition for its exceptional display, securing the top rank in the DxOMark display test ranking.

In order to put the Pixel 8 Pro’s durability to the test, YouTuber JerryRigEverything conducted an extensive examination. This test involved simulating seven years’ worth of damage on the smartphone. Jack, as he is commonly known, discovered that the Pixel 8 Pro boasts the brightest screen ever created by Google, which is protected by a robust Gorilla Glass Victus 2. However, upon closer inspection, the side panels of the Pixel 8 Pro exhibited visible damage from the scratches caused by a knife.

To further assess the Pixel 8 Pro’s capabilities, Jack compared it with the recently launched iPhone 15 Pro Max. One notable difference between the two smartphones is their rear magnetic charging abilities. Additionally, the Google smartphone features an infrared thermometer beside its LED flashlight. This unique feature allows for the measurement of body temperature within a 2-inch radius, excluding humans.

During the fire test, the Pixel 8 Pro obtained a permanent burn mark after a mere 17 seconds of exposure to an open flame. Despite this damage, the fingerprint scanner on the smartphone continued to function flawlessly. In the bend test, the iPhone 15 Pro Max failed entirely, whereas the Pixel 8 Pro excelled in terms of structural strength, remaining intact without any cracks or fractures.

As a recap, the Pixel 8 Pro boasts a generous 6.7-inch Quad-HD display with a resolution of 1,344×2,992 pixels and a high 120Hz refresh rate. The smartphone is powered by a 5,050mAh battery that supports 30W wired charging.

Through JerryRigEverything’s comprehensive durability test, the Google Pixel 8 Pro has proven itself to be a resilient and long-lasting smartphone. Its standout features include the brightest screen ever offered by Google and a sturdy Gorilla Glass Victus 2 for protection. With its exceptional performance in both the fire and bend tests, the Pixel 8 Pro sets itself apart from its competitors. As consumers continue to prioritize durability and reliability in their smartphones, the Google Pixel 8 Pro is undoubtedly a strong contender in the market.
