In a shocking turn of events, a former U.S. Army sergeant, Joseph Daniel Schmidt, has been arrested for allegedly attempting to provide classified national security information to China. The arrest, which took place at a San Francisco airport, came after Schmidt’s return from China. The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) revealed that the ex-soldier initiated his efforts to provide Chinese intelligence with classified U.S. defense information after separating from the military in January 2020. To carry out his sinister plans, Schmidt resided in Hong Kong from March 2020 until his recent arrest.
