Police Launch Murder Investigation for Pregnant Teacher Found Dead in Glasgow

Police are investigating the murder of Marelle Sturrock, a pregnant teacher found dead in Glasgow. The officers are searching for David Yates, Sturrock’s partner, who is wanted in connection with the crime. The body was found in Jura Street on Tuesday, and on Thursday, the police confirmed that Sturrock was 29 weeks pregnant. Unfortunately, her unborn child did not survive. Yates’s car was discovered nine miles away at Mugdock Country Park, sparking a major police search. Police divers have been seen at the park, and parts of the reservoir have been taped off, with officers standing guard. The last confirmed sighting of Yates was on Sunday evening. His subsequent movements are unknown, but the police believe he has not left the area.

Police Presence and School Notification

The police have a visible presence at both Jura Street and Mugdock Country Park, but there is no risk to the wider public. Anyone with information about the case is urged to contact Police Scotland. Parents and carers of pupils at Sandwood Primary School, where Sturrock worked, were informed of her death in a letter. The headteacher, Fiona Donnelly, paid tribute to Sturrock and described her as a kind, diligent, and considerate person who loved and made time for everyone. Sturrock was originally from the Scottish Highlands and moved to Glasgow when she was 17 to pursue a career in the performing arts. Later, she became a primary school teacher after completing her postgraduate diploma in education. Ms. Donnelly expressed the school’s deepest condolences to Sturrock’s family and friends and stated that they were all in mourning and devastated by the tragic news.
