Amazon India announces floating store on Dal Lake in Srinagar

Amazon India has made a groundbreaking announcement by launching its first-ever floating store on Dal Lake in Srinagar, Kashmir. This innovative move is part of their “I Have Space” last-mile delivery program, which aims to provide faster and more reliable deliveries to customers across Srinagar. The owner of houseboat Selec Town, Murtaza Khan Kashi, will be responsible for delivering packages directly to the doorstep of customers’ houseboats.

By introducing the floating store concept, Amazon is not only revolutionizing the delivery process but also creating new opportunities for small businesses in the region. This initiative will not only strengthen Amazon’s delivery network but also contribute to the growth of the local economy. The convenience and efficiency of receiving packages right at their doorstep will be a game-changer for customers in Srinagar.

Launched in 2015, the “I Have Space” program has been a cornerstone of Amazon’s delivery strategy in India. This program currently has 28,000 neighborhood and kirana partners spread across 420 towns and cities in the country. It collaborates with local stores and small businesses within a 2 to 4-kilometer radius to ensure efficient deliveries to customers.

The “I Have Space” program relies on local partners, known as IHS partners, who receive packages at their store locations and then deliver them to customers. These partners are compensated by Amazon based on the number of packages they deliver. This model allows anyone to become an IHS partner without requiring any upfront investment.

Benefits for IHS Partners

Being an IHS partner with Amazon offers a unique opportunity for individuals and businesses to join an established and trusted delivery network without the need for significant capital investment. On average, an Amazon IHS partner can deliver between 20 and 30 packages a day, earning a fixed amount per delivery. This arrangement provides both financial stability and the flexibility to work around their own schedules.

Amazon’s floating store on Dal Lake is a testament to their commitment to innovation and improving customer experiences. By expanding their delivery network to include houseboats in Srinagar, they are not only bringing convenience to customers but also creating opportunities for small businesses. The “I Have Space” program has proven to be a successful model in various cities across India, and with this latest development, it is set to become a game-changer in the picturesque surroundings of Dal Lake.
