Microsoft Paint, the long-standing graphics manipulation tool, is finally receiving a much-needed upgrade. Windows 11 users will soon have access to two new image editing features that will enhance their editing capabilities. This update will introduce layers and transparency support, bringing Paint closer to professional editing programs like Adobe Photoshop.
One of the most significant updates to MS Paint is the addition of support for layers. Similar to Adobe Photoshop, users will now be able to add, remove, and manage layers on the canvas. These layers can be hidden or adjusted independently, allowing for greater flexibility in editing. By organizing digital elements on different layers, users can control their visibility and position within the image. For example, one can place an element behind another to create a sense of depth or remove unwanted elements easily.
Another exciting feature making its way to MS Paint is transparency support. This means that users can now open and edit transparent images, such as PNG files. When editing these images, Paint will display a duotone checkerboard pattern as the background for transparent areas. Additionally, the eraser tool can selectively remove the background, making it transparent as well. Previously, Paint would save images with transparent areas filled with a white background, but now it will save them as PNG files, preserving the transparency.
