Man Arrested After Stabbing Incident at Central Middlesex Hospital

A man has been arrested after two people were stabbed at Central Middlesex Hospital in northwest London. The Metropolitan Police responded to calls of an incident at around 1.18 pm on Wednesday, and armed officers were dispatched to the scene. One of the victims has life-threatening injuries, while the other has non-life-threatening injuries. The suspect was arrested outside the hospital, and he is receiving treatment for self-inflicted injuries. The man’s condition is also being regarded as life-threatening by the police.

According to eyewitnesses, the attacker went on a “mad rampage” with a pickaxe before stabbing two people. A steeplejack who was contracted to repair the chimney at the hospital saw the alleged attacker chase two men, who managed to escape. The attacker then ran into the hospital after screaming at the steeplejack to “get out of my f****** way – this is none of your business.”

Police Response and Hospital Lockdown

The Metropolitan Police confirmed that the incident is not being treated as terror-related, and the hospital was temporarily locked down. The police have a heightened presence at the hospital while the investigation is ongoing. Officers will remain in the hospital while further searches are conducted. Police said that they are currently satisfied that no one else is being sought in connection with the incident.

During the lockdown, police checked the area where patients were before locking them in a nurses’ room for approximately 45 minutes. People in the dialysis unit were particularly affected by the incident, with some patients put on wheelchairs and brought into a room where they were locked in.

Aftermath and NHS Response

The London Ambulance Service was at the scene with paramedics, and an air ambulance and hazardous environment team were also deployed. The London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust, which runs the hospital, confirmed that services would resume as normal after the lockdown was lifted. However, some appointments may need to be rescheduled if patients cannot be seen on the day of their appointment.

Health Secretary Steve Barclay expressed his support for those affected by the incident and thanked the first responders who treated people at the scene.
